Although many tractors are put to use year-round, occasionally you may need to put it in storage. These machines work hard to keep things going on your operation, so it’s important to maintain them, even when they’re not being used every day! Our team at Enlow Tractor Auction has a few tips for how to properly store and prepare your tractor for storage.

Winterization

Most likely you’ll be putting your tractor away for the season during the winter months. This means you should winterize your equipment before putting it away. You’ll want to add stabilizer to the fuel, change the oil, and make sure all the fluids are topped off. During this process, you’ll also want to complete a thorough inspection and address and maintenance concerns right away. Doing all of this now will make it easier to bring your tractor out of storage in the spring!

Cleaning

Next, clean the tractor thoroughly inside and out. This will help prevent rust and corrosion while it's in storage. Clean the interior with a vacuum and a mild cleanser. You want to sanitize any frequently used controls and the steering wheel.

For the exterior, use soap and water. You can also wax the tractor to add an extra layer of protection and shine!

Cover

Ideally your tractor can be parked in a shelter or shop to protect it from the harsh elements. If you aren’t able to do this, a tarp or machine cover will do just fine.

Check on your tractor periodically while it's in storage, just to make sure everything is still in good condition. And when spring comes around, your tractor will be ready to go!
