Maintaining Your Farm Equipment's Parts
Farm equipment needs maintenance just like any other type of machine. Failing to maintain your farm equipment can result in reduced performance and even long-term damage. That’s why the experts at Enlow Tractor Auction have created this guide to maintaining your farm equipment’s parts.
Read The Owner’s Manual
Your owner’s manual is an invaluable resource when it comes to equipment maintenance. It should have information about when to schedule maintenance, what types of products to use, and so on. Be sure to consult your owner’s manual before attempting any farm equipment maintenance.
The Tires
The better you maintain your farm equipment’s tires, the more traction they will get on rough terrain. Besides just occasionally checking to make sure that your tires have proper tread depth and are generally in good condition, you should keep an eye on the tire pressure. Tire pressure gauges are relatively cheap, and both over- and under-inflation is bad for your tires.
The Engine
If the farm equipment that you are maintaining has an engine, you’ll need to check up on the oil, hydraulic fluid, and coolant. Besides just topping off these fluids when necessary, you should also occasionally take a look at the fluids themselves to ensure that they are still in good condition. It’s also important that you stay on the lookout for possible leaks and swap out the filters when necessary.
The Frame
Farm equipment is built to be tough. A few scratches and dings are nothing to worry about. The real danger comes if the frame is damaged enough that the equipment’s structural integrity is threatened. If that happens, schedule a service appointment.
The Attachments
Damaged attachments aren’t just less efficient, they’re dangerous to use. Inspect your farm equipment’s attachments just as frequently as you inspect the equipment itself, and never attempt to use an attachment or implement that has been damaged.
The Operator Tools
The operator tools, as in the mirrors, buttons, and levers that allow the operator to control the farm equipment, are necessary for safely using a piece of farm equipment. If any of these operator tools are broken or non-functional, you’ll need to get them fixed before you attempt to use the equipment again.
